The Megalodon (meaning big tooth) is an extinct species of shark that lived roughly 23 to 3.6 million years ago. from the early miocene to the pliocene epochs. while regarded as one of the largest predators to have ever lived, the appearance and maximum size are uncertain. scientists estimate they grew up to 67' long with their jaws opening 11' wide. the fossil teeth have been collected and prized for centuries across ancient europe and the americas. being used for jewelry, knives, projectile points, and for spiritual or ceremonial ritual. historically they were thought to be petrified serpent tongues, consumed for "medicinal" purposes or used to protect the wearer from poisons.
